Video on demand (VoD)

Video on Demand is referred to a system that allows viewers to watch a variety of programming based video content in real time or download it for later use. Video on demand services can be used for entertainment, education, video conferencing and Live events. VOD systems at a consumer level can stream content through STB, Computers, Smartphones and advanced digital media devices delivered over the internet.

Video on Demand (VOD) services allow users to access and watch videos at their convenience. There are several types of VOD services:

1. Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD):

  • Model: Users pay a recurring subscription fee to access a library of content.
  • Examples: Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+

2. Transactional Video on Demand (TVOD):

  • Model: Users pay a one-time fee to purchase individual pieces of content.
  • Examples: iTunes, Amazon Video, Google Play Movies & TV

3. Advertising Video on Demand (AVOD):

  • Model: Users can watch content for free, but the service generates revenue through ads.
  • Examples: Pluto TV, YouTube
