SAML or Security Assertion Mark-up Language is an open standard that allows identity providers (IdP) to pass authorization credentials to service providers (SP). SAML transactions use XML or Extensible Markup Language for standardized communications between the service providers and identity provider. SAML 2.0 enables Single-Sign On (SSO). With SSO, users can log in once to an application/platform by using their login ID and password and those same login credentials can be reused to log into other service providers.
Implementing SAML for secure authentication is especially valuable for industries like media and entertainment that offer live streaming services. By leveraging SAML-based Single-Sign On (SSO), live streaming services can provide their users with a seamless and secure viewing experience, allowing access across multiple platforms without requiring repetitive logins. This approach not only enhances security but also improves user satisfaction by simplifying access to various live streaming services and reducing the need for multiple passwords.
