The internet has become a huge part of life and the economy of the nation. Some cellular companies along with brands and content providers subsidize data charges for increasing content consumption. Around 75% of operators in US offer incentives to consumers to increase their data usage, which would ultimately benefit both sponsors and them. For example, T-Mobile gives a plan where video streaming from around 50 sites are free of data charges.
But this violates FCC’s net neutrality, and zero rating regulations. This actually affects the lower income group – that is sanctions on free content delivery, or ‘zero-rating’. Toll-free calling is a bright example of a successful service of this kind. Opponents to this have the opinion that giving free content from some sites/apps will have an unfair advantage over other normal paid content consumption.
