Broadcast TV is still ruling in Philippines. According to Nielsen Global video-on-demand survey that polled over 30000 online respondents from 61 countries, 59% of Filipinos online have a cable connection and 16% have subscription video-on-demand. 45% of them access VOD content once a day, or sometimes more. Movies are highest watched on VOD here, TV programmes come 2nd (60%) followed by comedies, (52%), documentaries (44%), reality shows (40%), news shows (38%) and dramas (35%).
“The emergence of video-on-demand programming options is giving consumers greater control over what, when and how they watch content,” says Stuart Jamieson, Managing Director of Nielsen Philippines. “Viewers are now expanding their range of viewing platforms as well as the amount of media they’re consuming. We are seeing that online is supplementing traditional services.”
