Nielsen TV Ratings Measurement

Nielsen’s TV ratings have been consistently generating mixed reviews from the TV industry due to its measurement criteria. In fact, many have gone on to label it incorrect and sometimes biased.

FOX Exec Chairman Lachlan Murdoch has voiced his concern over traditional TV ratings and calls for a sophisticated ratings measurement system that will be able to measure viewing in all forms in this age of TV.  The lack of such rating standards has helped the downfall of TV against VOD platforms and triggered huge meltdowns this year.

It is not just him but a collective reflection of frustration building up in the media circles over the fact that TV is still being defined as a business stuck to the fixed screens in our homes , exactly how Nielsen measures it.  The lack of rating systems to tap in to TV everywhere viewings is worrying everyone because that missing part will unlock the door to a huge untapped audience. Marketers, TV networks and programmers will all look to benefit from it. And hence the concern.
